O-13: Exogen Melatonin Protects SpermatogenicCells from Apoptosis in Mouse underChemotherapy
Authors
Abstract:
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective role of melatonin on the apoptosis of germ cells in chemotherapy-induced spermiotoxicity. Materials and Methods: Male adult NMRI mice were divided into four groups. Then each group were divided into two subgroups of a and b. Group 1 (control): mice received vehicle (ethanol 1%) for 5 days; Group2 (Busulfan): mice received a single dose of 20 mg/kg busulfan. Group 3 (Melatonin) mice: received melatonin (10 mg/kg) for 5 days. Group 4 (Busulfan+Melatonin): received a 5-day course of melatonin (10 mg/kg) following an initial dose of busulfan (20 mg/kg). Evaluationswere made using in situ TUNEL assay after 5 days( a- Abstracts of the 11th Royan International Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine 3 5 International Journal of Fertility & Sterility (IJFS), Vol 4, Suppl 1, Summer 2010 subgroup) or 35 days(b-subgroup) and assay of plasma testosterone. Results: Busulfan-treated mice both in a and b-subgroups, showed a significant increase in the numbers of apoptotic cells (p

P-11: Exogenous Melatonin Protects Follicogenesisand Endometrium from Apoptosis inFemale Mouse Treated with Nicotine
Background: Nicotine exposure causes impaired fertility , ovarian and uterus dysfunction. The pineal hormone melatonin is known as an antioxidant agent. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective role of exogen melatonin on altered ovary and endometrium with nicotine. Materials and Methods: Female adult NMRI mice were divided into four groups. The control group received ve...
full textP-119: Melatonin Protects Folliculogenesis through Up-Regulation of Estrogen Receptors in Mouse under Treatment with Nicotine
Background: Melatonin as the major hormone produced by the pineal gland has a significant role in mammalian reproduction. In this study the efficacy of melatonin coadministration with nicotine on mouse follicogenesis was investigated. Materials and Methods: A total of 32 Female adult NMRI mice were divided into four groups. The control group (n=8) received vehicle, group 2 (n=8) received nicoti...
full textO 13: Ion Channels in Autoimmune Neurodegeneration
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system characterized by widespread inflammation, focal demyelination and a variable degree of axonal and neuronal loss. Ionic conductances regulate T cell activation as well as neuronal function and thus have been found to play a crucial role in MS pathogenesis. Since present therapeutical approaches are only parti...
full textO-3: Effect of Melatonin Treatment on Developmental Potential of Somatic Cell Nuclear- Transferred Mouse Oocytes In Vitro
Background Melatonin (N-acetyl-5- methoxytryptamine) is mainly synthesized and secreted in the pineal gland, ovary, testes, bone marrow, retina and lens in mammalian species. It is involved in the detoxification of ROS and protects embryos from oxidative damage. Melatonin acts as a potential free radical scavenger, including peroxyl radical and hydroxyl radical. In addition, it can stimulate th...

PURPOSE To investigate whether retinol dehydrogenase 13 (RDH13) can protect the retina from acute light-induced damage. METHODS We generated Rdh13 knockout mice using molecular biologic methods and assessed the associated morphological and functional changes under room-light conditions by hematoxylin-eosin (H&E), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scotopic electroretinography. Then, ...
full textGalanin Protects from Caspase-8/12-initiated Neuronal Apoptosis in the Ischemic Mouse Brain via GalR1
Galanin (GAL) plays key role in many pathophysiological processes, but its role in ischemic stroke remains unclear. Here, the models of 1 h middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO)/1-7 d reperfusion (R)-induced ischemic stroke and in vitro cell ischemia of 1 h oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)/24 h reoxygenation in primary cultured cortical neurons were used to explore GAL's effects and its under...
